Day 12 – 1/11/16
Timer on…
Well, today was a good yoga day…nothing much to report…all the poses are getting deeper and are satisfying…
I might start discussing the poses in order that I haven’t discussed, yet…
So…I start and end with meditation, and according to THE YOGA HANDBOOK by Noa Belling, the benefits of meditation: “Meditation cultivates a state of contentment and serenity. It induces brainwave states of mental relaxation and calmness and has been found to regulate blood pressure. It also activates the parasympathetic nervous system, which exerts a calming influence and allows the muscles of the body to let go of unnecessary tension, and helps to regulate breathing patterns. When practiced daily, for anything from five minutes to one or more hours, meditation is an effective tool for coping with or rising above the challenges and potentially stressful situations that life may present…On a spiritual dimension, concentration of the attention and the resultant quieting of the mind’s chatter and activity leads to true meditation, which involves a withdrawal of the senses so that one is not distracted. The ultimate aim of meditation is the triggering of a state of bliss and a superconscious state, with its heightened awareness, enlightenment, or intuitive realization of the nature of the self.”
“The ultimate aim of meditation is the triggering of a state of bliss and a superconscious state…” Hmmm…my ultimate aim for this whole process is to find a ritual that bridges the gap between unmarried and married…because every other culture than United States, seems to have rituals… We have bachelorette parties and bridal showers, but…I don’t think that’s what I’m looking for, especially, since I have been with the same man for 7+ years and marriage is a new thing for us…commitment is already there…and we’ve bested some pretty tough tests…but the ritual of stating that commitment to others feels important after our second long-distance test, and I want to make sure that I do this right…whatever that means…and will the meditation and practice during these 38 days lead to or “trigger” a “state of bliss and superconscious state”? I don’t know, and I certainly don’t know what the word bliss means, truly…AND…the only superconscious state I’ve experienced is being an actor and having the consciousness of the character, myself, and what I’m told to do in the show, all at one time…which feels like some really awesome string theory paper…but…bliss, I’m not sure what that is…I guess I’ll keep plugging away at that…
The timer is done…thank you…
