Day 42-43
Timer on…
So…yesterday I was too tired to do the yoga series, but…I woke up early to do it before work, but I didn’t have time to type up the results, and then…tonight I did the series that was supposed to be for today.
I have started rehearsal for the two plays I’m directing, and…this is going to be hard, but…the guy it’s honoring is worth it…
Alright…more definitions…
peristalsis, vagus nerve, the root of the autonomic nervous system
Peristalsis: (according to pennmedicine.com): “…is a series of wave-like muscle contractions that moves food to different processing stations in the digestive tract. The process of peristalsis begins in the esophagus when a bolus of food is swallowed.” From medicineplus.com: “Peristalsis is an automatic and important process. It moves: Food through the digestive system, Urine from the kidneys into the bladder, Bile from the gallbladder into the duodenum.”
Vagus Nerve: (from healthline.com) “The vagus nerve is one of the 12 cranial nerves. It extends from the brain stem to the abdomen, via various organs including the heart, esophagus and lungs. Also known as cranial nerve X, the vagus forms part of the involuntary nervous system and commands unconscious body procedures, such as keeping the heart rate constant and controlling food digestion. The vagus, which is the longest of all cranial nerves, became a point of interest among neurologists in the 19th century when they realized they could curb seizures by applying pressure to it via the carotid artery located in the neck. More recent research has revealed the stimulation of the vagus decreases the frequency and severity of epileptic seizures in animals.”
The Root of the Autonomic Nervous System: (from the FreeDictionary.com): “The part of the vertebrate nervous system that regulates involuntary action, as the intestines, heart, and glands, and this is divided into sympathetic nervous and the parasympathetic nervous system.”
So…these last three are all about the “unconscious” nervous system…and my hypothesis all along this journey has been that my “unconscious” knows something that my conscious mind doesn’t and it’s holding onto a lot of pain and literal/emotional weight, and, I guess that these last three Chakras that have only one pose per Chakra are the ones dealing with that area that I’m truly trying to tap into: The unconscious mind that just can’t let go…
It is exhausting, this series, but…I hope the result will, eventually, be worth it..
That is all for today…and yesterday…
