Day 4
Timer on…hair in a bad bun…room put back together…very snowy and cold here in the Catskills today…
Anyway, I was surprised I survived Day 4 as well as I did, considering that this morning I was really dreading the series, but then I got an e-mail from Tannis Kowalchak (one of the co-Artistic Directors of the NACL Theatre) wondering if I was going to yoga this morning in Callicoon, NY. I had forgotten about that class and because I had cabin fever, I decided to get my butt in gear to go.
The yoga class in Callicoon is Iyengar method. I have never done this method. I have done Hatha, Bikram, and Anausara, but…never Iyengar… I took my first class of it before Winter Solstice and this was my second class. The class is not, necessarily, challenging for me, but it’s nice to be around people and it’s nice to learn a different point of view to the practice I’ve been doing since 1997.
The one thing from that class that helped me in my mourning sequence today was the importance of the “rest” pose. The rest pose is to let the body reflect and process the work that it just did in one of the poses. Anyway…I used several of my new rest poses (that I added yesterday – Supta Vajrasana, Apanasana, and Tadasana) and I was able to maintain all of the poses for all of the 69 Kapalabhati breaths, with the exception of Nataranjasana (Dancer) on the standing right leg…I got to 35 and tried again, but only made it to 53…not sure what that’s about, but…my ankles hurt a little from already taking an hour and a half of yoga this morning and waking the dogs twice in the snow, so…maybe by Nataranjasana, my body/ankle gave up.
I thought I would add the playlist that my boyfriend made for me in August 2013 when I lost my friend to mental illness. I’m using this playlist to help me through the poses and this 69 Day journey…the songs all center around the theme of love, and I need to pursue this journey with love and not fear. I fear that I will not finish this journey or do it justice so…reminding me of love…could be helpful…
The playlist is nice, and if you’ve never heard some of the songs, you should check them out:

2. “The Quiz” – Hello Saferide
3. “Santa Ana” – Bruce Springsteen
