Day 26
Timer on…
Well, it’s not as hot as yesterday, but it’s hot…I turned off the pellet stove in the middle of the day to cool it down again, but…when I went out for the dogs’ third walk today everything was already freezing, preparing for our next cold front…we are supposed to have a low of 6 degrees tonight...so…I turned the stove back on when I got back from the walk… Now, my Dad’s theory always was that you can maintain a fire better than starting one from scratch…when you start from scratch in a cold house or shop, then you have to burn the stove really hot and keep stuffing it, but…if you maintain the heat in the house, then…you can keep the stove at a low heat just to keep the heat in…lately it’s worked, but…yesterday…it was just too hot… Today was another “hot yoga” sequence, but…not near as bad as yesterday, or I’m just used to it, already…who knows? The body has an amazing way of adapting to all sorts of things: cold, heat, elevation, pollution, etc. (Though, on a side note, I don’t think I’ll ever get used to humidity…my one worry about moving back to the East Coast…).
So…as we left yesterday we were still trying to suss out the meaning of the Ajna Chakra…I didn’t get very far, but…I’ll try to get further today.
“Third eye or brow chakra. Color: Indigo. Element: ether. Endocrine system; hypothalamus and pituitary glands. Vital organ: the brain. General function: cognition. Related to wisdom and awareness of the mind.”
I had to re-paste the definition here because I didn’t want to scroll back and forth…
So…we found a decent connection to mourning for ether…“a medium that in wave theory of light permeates all space and transmits transverse waves…” So…now let’s explore what the heck our endocrine system has to do with this…Let’s define it: “The endocrine system is the collection of glands that produce hormones that regulate metabolism, growth and development, tissue function, sexual function, reproduction, sleep, and mood, among other things…” – emedicine.com
Alright…and then we are using the hypothalamus and the pituitary glands in that area…so…let’s explore that: “The hypothalamus is a section of the brain responsible for hormone production. The hormones produces by this area of the brain govern body temperature, thirst, hunger, sleep, circadian rhythm, moods, sex drive, and the release of other hormones in the body. This area of the brain controls the pituitary gland and other glands in the body. This area of the brain is small, but involved in many necessary processes of the body including behavioral, autonomic, and endocrine functions. The hypothalamus’ primary function is homeostasis, which is to maintain the body’s status-quo system-wide.” – Healthline.com
Okay, I like that last part…it “rings” true… “The hypothalamus’ primary function is homeostasis, which is to maintain the body’s status-quo system-wide.” Well, obviously, one’s status-quo is not good during mourning, so…finding a bunch of poses that helps realign that area and releases hormones to help that…is probably a good idea.
Lastly, and that’s probably all I’ll achieve tonight, is the pituitary gland…
According to pituitary.org.uk, “The pituitary is an important gland in the body and it is often referred to as the ‘master gland’, because it controls several of the other hormone glands (e.g. adrenals, thyroid). It is usually about the size of a pea and consists of two parts (often called lobes) – a front part, called the anterior pituitary and a back part, called the posterior pituitary. The pituitary gland sits in a bony hollow called the pituitary fossa. This is behind the bridge of the nose and below the base of the brain, close to the optic nerves. It is often considered the most important part of the endocrine system because it produces hormones that control many functions of the other endocrine glands. The anterior pituitary makes several important hormones – growth hormone, puberty hormones (or gonadotrophins), thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH, which stimulates the thyroid gland to make Thyroxine), prolactin and Adrenocorticotrophic Hormone (ACTH, which stimulates the adrenal stress hormone, cortisol). The posterior pituitary makes the fluid balance hormone called anti-diuretic hormone (ADH).”
Well, it helps all the things that help with weight-loss…and…surprise, surprise…it’s the same place that the stress hormone is located…so…I was right, in a way, I just had to get to Day 26 to prove something to myself: I haven’t been losing weight because my body is stressed out…and the same place that releases the hormone to help with weight-loss/maintaining is a place, that is, obviously, releasing stress hormones…Ugh! That is a cruel joke, God, to make those two things be controlled by the same hormone…
That’s all for today…
