Day 25
Timer on…
Well, I sort-of did a Bikram yoga version of this mourning yoga series because my little 400 sq. ft. cottage is very warm right now…my pellet stove is on its lowest temperature/fan speed (which saves money and energy), but the temperature outside warmed up to the point that it snowed, and…it is, for all intent and purpose cold outside, but…it’s not in the teens or the negatives as it’s been for the past couple of weeks, so…my cottage is warmer than normal…I just did this series in a temperature that is closer to what they keep the Bikram studios, and I did the full series, with all the rest poses, which takes about an hour and half (as Bikram does), so…I guess this can be a “Hot Yoga” series, as well, for those of you who want to try it that way… I will say it gave me a headache and I had to drink a lot more water and tea than normal, and I think I’m going to sleep really well tonight… I also broke my Dad’s winter rule: leave the house warm/hot…I can’t tonight…I turned the stove off…if it gets cold later…I’ll turn it back on, and I opened a window for awhile…oh boy…it’s hot in here…when I started typing I realized that my computer was hot, and then I knew…it’s just too hot in here… On a positive note: the “Hot Yoga” version of this series is very centering because you’re focusing so hard on surviving you’re not really reflecting on death and getting sad and dealing with the waves of sadness throughout the series…you’re just doing the poses and focusing on yourself…so this might be an option for people who just want to get out of their heads…though, insult to injury, you get out of your head with the payment of a headache, if you don’t drink enough water…so…be warned!
So…we left yesterday with needing to suss out the meaning of the Ajna Chakra…
The first thing that struck me was that ether is the element…I just watched Julie Taymor’s THE TEMPEST (my favorite Shakespeare, but not really my favorite manifestation of the play) and ether always brings up the image of the character Ariel…but, really, what is it? Let’s look it up…So…Wikipedia says that it is an “are” and the “are” is…a class of organic compounds that contain an ether group – an oxygen atom connected to two alkyl or aryl groups – of general formula R-O-R. A typical example is the solvent and anesthetic diethyl ether commonly referred to simply as “ether”. Ethers are common in organic chemistry and pervasive in biochemistry, as they are linkages in carbohydrates and lignin…
Oh boy, that means nothing to me and doesn’t help me suss out the mystery of this definition, at all…
I’m going to visit Merriam Webster: a liquid that burns easily, that is used to turn solid substances into liquid, and that was used in medicine in the past to prevent patients from feeling pain during operations…the rarefied element formerly believed to fill the upper regions of space…the upper regions of space…a medium that in the wave theory of light permeates all space and transmits transverse waves…
Okay, that last one strikes a chord, “a medium that in wave theory of light permeates all space and transmits transverse waves…” I like it because in a standing balance pose, one almost feels as though they are a part of something bigger; that they are using the world and air to help them balance and that your focus sent to a focal point helps the balance stay consistent…Okay…I’m using that one...to help the mystery…
Well, that’s all we have for today, so…more tomorrow…
