Day 25-27
Well, timer on…
Thursday was a better day. I went to training in the morning at NACL, and we learned some more contact improvisation from the Carpetbag Brigade, in addition to the layering work from Brad Krumholz. The contact improvisation had more to do with finding one body part and sharing weight within that body part. They also gave us a method of “meeting”, and it helped break the ice, so to speak with the contact work. After training we rehearsed for about 2.5 hours on many of the scenes that my character is involved with in COURAGE. Thursday also involved a “Weave Through” of COURAGE. We ran through the whole show and showed an audience what we have been working on. I was very tired after Thursday because I also had to advise and change some student schedules and go to UPS to pick something up for COURAGE and go grocery shopping…it was a very busy day…
Friday I had training again in the morning and we continued the layering work and the contact improv work, however, it was bittersweet because the Carpetbag Brigade members would be leaving us that day. Some had already left and it made a hole in the room that couldn’t be filled. On a happy note, the training was really amazing that day. I felt like, as an ensemble, we really started to get somewhere with the work, and the connections that we were making felt authentic and earned.
Saturday, today, I walked the dogs, I went over to my friend’s, the Reifenheiser’s house, to help them move a piece of furniture into their new kitchen, and then I did the wedding circuit while grading speeches for my on-line speech class. I then had rehearsal at NACL for COURAGE for three hours (which was mostly singing – but that’s a muscle). I’m home, now, and finishing up my comments for my on-line speech class. I also made Carne Adovada today for my fiancé, I didn’t have a blender, so I couldn’t really make the adovada “paste-y”, but Nick said it was good, anyway. It cooked in its sauce-y goodness for three hours, and he said the pork fell right off the bone. He said it was spicy, though. It’s supposed to be, so…I guess I did my job. I walked the dogs, again, and, I think, that might be it for me today…I don’t think I want to push my luck anymore today…
Timer out…
