Day 8
Timer on…
Well, I have done a lot today.
I woke up this morning, as always, and walked the dogs, and then I went to rehearsal for COURAGE at Apple Pond Farm. Today we didn’t do our “normal” warm-up because we were at our “site specific” performance space, but plenty of “work out” occurred: we walked the whole “performance space” which includes several barns, a fence, a creek bed, an open field, a sheep field, a glen, and then another field up a hill. The walk and performing the scenes that occurred there took about 2 hours. It was great, and afterwards we walked back down and had a lovely lunch with the owners of the farm (one of the first sustainable farms of its kind in the United States). I felt very happy to be there. It reminded me of home. Sometimes I was embarrassed to bring my friends home because our house had so much stuff everywhere that my Dad kept and my Mom kept, but today at Apple Pond Farm, I saw a very similar world: lots of stuff, but stuff that could be used at any time, and lots of history going into the work of the farm. Dick, one of the owners, is near the age of my own father, and, I think, it is a generation of farmers (my father was raised a farmer), where you don’t throw anything away; you use it…or keep it for a future use.
Anyway, after rehearsal I went home and had a terrible allergic reaction to all the grass/animals I was around all morning. While I was in it, I felt fine, but once I left…oh boy…it was not good. I’m still suffering a bit…my eyes are all red and watery, but…it feels better than it did, earlier…
I then began to grade and while grading I decided to do the wedding workout and then 3 poses of yoga in between every paper. I’m not done, yet, but it’s past midnight now, and, I thought I’d better write.
I (also) did one of the sequences of the Catherine Fitzmaurice method and a ballet sequence. I’m hoping I don’t have a repeat of the pain I felt last week after my ballet excursion.
One thing that was a discovery today was when I did the chakras. I decided to do them in the opposite direction that I usually do. Instead of from the base chakra up to the head, I did the head chakra to the base. This was really lovely after the wedding workout and yoga positions: it felt very centering and whole. I’m not really sure what to do with that information, but (maybe) my body likes the chakras from the head down, not the base up…
I (also) discovered that the ballet positions were easier today. It’s interesting that a discipline that you once had, only takes a couple of re-visits to show up back in your body. I’m not sure if my body is going to be happy with me tomorrow, but…it felt better and more fluid today than it has in many years.
One other thing that I have noticed is that I am getting stronger. Push-ups are really easy, and I might have to add more to my sequences because I don’t really feel anything when I do them. I also noticed that my forward bend pose, which usually is not very good is becoming, well, good…daily practice definitely has its benefits.
On another note, I tried Hanumanasana (the splits), again, today. I haven’t done them since the Journey Towards Love sequence I started at the New Year. It’s unfortunate that I didn’t keep that practice up because I don’t have the splits on my left side anymore. I guess I should try to do it daily, again, and see if I can build back up to the pose.
Well, Day 8 was pretty exciting, and I really have to thank whoever created the sequences posted on the web for yoga and allergies because they were my saving grace today. It seems counterintuitive to do upside down poses when your head is spewing all sorts of yucky-ness, but…it works…it’s painful, at first, but something really seems to “pop” and then breathing and yuck-i-ness seems to dissipate…
